So I wasn’t able to accept my financial aid package because my school needs my parents tax return transcripts. So called irs to send me a copy but they say they can’t at this moment. So I called again around august and they never picked up. so i sent a request and i got a letter saying it will take 30 days to process. Then i get a letter today saying they can’t process my request. So Im like wat the heck why won’t they just give this piece of paper i need to accept my financial aid package.
What was the reason they gave for not sending it? Is it because the request is not from your parent? is it because the return was not filed correctly? Is the return being audited?
Normally, it is not a 30 day process. They usually can get the transcript out in 5 days and you receive it in 5-10 days.
You parents may be able to get it online See https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
Your parents the taxpayers, will have to submit a written request for the documents. They can do this online , fax it or mail the request. as other stated, it will usually take between 5/10 days for the IRS to process the request and mail it out.
We ordered it online and it was received within a few days.
When did you parents file their tax return? Did they e-file or mail the return? Did they pay any amount owed?
I had a similar issue.
You’ll need to budget at least an hour to be on hold to talk to the IRS. They may explain that someone tried to fraudulently use your parent’s tax return, or that your parents need to be on the telephone line to make the request.
You may need to submit a form (I forget the name) and copies of documents such as SS card, passport, etc.
After this, talk to a human, and ask that they mail a paper transcript to your home.
Have your phone plugged in, and on speaker, it takes a good long time.
Hope this help!
