Why would Georgetown want my picture?

A couple weeks ago I completed the Early Decision app to GU, and I was really confused as to why they would want my picture. Under the guidance of our counselor, I reluctantly submitted one. But why would they possibly want my picture? Are they going to judge me based on how pretty/nerdy or whatever else I am that they might possibly be looking for?

Don’t know how it works now, but many years ago lots of colleges asked for a picture with the application. Then if you were admitted, they published it in the photo directory of new students - the ‘look book’ or ‘face book’ I am out of touch with whether any still do this.

Some applicants check off African American in hopes of getting a URM hook in admissions and turn out to be white.

Well, if you look like Emma Watson, then you may have just discovered the newest admissions hook.

I don’t know if Georgetown is the same, but Pomona does it to remind the admissions committee that the applications represent real people.

You clearly haven’t been around many AA. My grandfather is black and most of my cousins as well as myself have white skin and soft curly hair.

Also interview is required for all early action applicants. My DD applied early, did not submit a photo and was accepted.

I think a picture is used as a simple tool of putting a face to a name. Admissions counselors are reading about all of these people, and seeing their face might be helpful. Plus, if you have met an admissions counselor, they probably won’t remember your name, but they might remember your face.

Ok thanks you guys! I’m a lot less confused and creeped out now
