Why would you choose Dartmouth over...

..any other school?

I'm curious in hearing what it is about Dartmouth that different people love?

All opinions welcome.

Great on-campus recruiting.

hm probably the d-plan…

I’m a freshman at Dartmouth right now and would love to tell you about some of the great things about this college.

First of all, the student body is extraordinary. There are so many smart and kind people here, and they are all really supportive of the incoming freshmen. Dartmouth probably has the most relaxed atmosphere of any of the Ivy League schools and is really oriented around the concept of community.

Secondly, the professors are all amazing. Unlike most other top-notch schools, Dartmouth has very few graduate students, which means that the professors are focused solely on teaching the undergrads. Class sizes are really small (my biggest class right now is 30 people, which is really small compared to most other colleges’ introductory classes). The professors are always willing to help students learn the material, and they have really good office hours, making them very accessible.

Third, the D-plan is awesome. Dartmouth’s term schedule is really flexible, allowing students to do amazing internships or multiple study abroad programs. If you take an off-term in the fall, winter, or spring, then it’s much easier to find internships because you aren’t competing with many other college students. The study abroad options are incredible. Dartmouth has study abroad programs all over the world, and they are all led by Dartmouth professors.

Fourth, the location. Although Hanover is not the most vibrant place, I really like the small town setting. The surroundings are beautiful, and Dartmouth students are always finding ways to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors through hiking, kayaking, biking, climbing, etc.

Fifth, there are some amazing extracurricular opportunities. Students can get involved in tons of activities, ranging from dancing to woodworking to environmentalism to singing to just about anything you want to do. The sports teams are also a lot of fun.

Anyway, I think those are the main things that set Dartmouth apart from most other schools. I have absolutely loved my time here so far. Basically, I feel like I’m at a really awesome camp.

I hope this helped. Good luck on college apps!

Thanks for that answer Joc2014! Very helpful!
