The New Work Model Quote, From The Post Explains It Explicitly.

doctor.... rather help ppl... than lie...... so shut it.

Agree with Xeneise. GAclassof2008, you're arguing the same point over and over again without acknowledging what the rest of the posters are saying. At the same time, you're getting aggressive because we aren't completely agreeing with you. I think you need to become more open-minded.

all of your post say the same thing, so who is repetitive? i have to be repetitive to get it through the heads of some ppl...blah blah opportunities this,,,, opportunities.... job/ money that.....

You need to understand that top schools are top for a reason. That doesn't mean they're the only or the best path to success.

Ok, blah blah blah, but it's true.
That one quote you have from a newspaper doesn't prove anything. Employers that want smart people are going to hire from a school that consistantly delivers, whether that be an ivy or other schools that surpass them. Like it or not, all schools are not equal, and they never will be.

"Don't ever become a lawyer"

As I read this thread, I was thinking the same exact thing. GA, you are making it very apparent that you didn't turn down top schools by choice.

Oh jeeze, here goes the whole ivy-league thing again! I tend to hear this a lot at my school HAHHAHA LOL !! This is my opinion there's a reason why an Ivy-league has a high reputation. It's been around for years and they're obviously ahead of the game on how to teach and on how a college works! An ivy-league does HELP esp. with networking, connection, and recieving an education. But just because a person doesn't go to an ivy-league doesn't mean they are a failure for life! It also helps that if you go to an ivy-leauge with some type of game plan meaning you know what you're going to do! A lot of people with a bachelors from Upenn from Wharton forgoe graduate school because of how powerful a business degree from Wharton is. The reason why these schools are so special is because NOT that many people go to them. Besides, if I got accepted I admit it I would go in a heartbeat! But I'm happy at my school and I have no complaints and make the best out of every situation :)! Overall, the better the school the better the connection, networking, and influences if you choose to take advantage of them that is ;)!

are you a big employer???? hold on.....let me think,,.... no..... i didn't say school's are equal. ivies are old.....ok..... my entire point of this thread is.... think b4 you waist money for ivies, especially if you could go to another top school ....

for i said throughout the entire thread... i will quote my self:

education is education..... people keep putting ivies on this high pedastool.... just cause you get in or go to an ivy, it doesn't change how smart you are.... there are smarter people elsewhere.

people should realize that there are good schools other than ivies, and that if you can't afford an ivy, having a huge loan isn't the smartest thing to do, when there are soo many other good schools

Ivies are good for getting into companies

i don't say ivies are bad...... JUST TOO OVERRATED

Oh one more thing I hear this a lot "Every school is the same" No, it's not not every school is the same. The people, culture, professors, and lifestyles are very different. Every university is unique in it's own way and has it's strengths and weaknesses! The university that you go to can impact you life in a positive or negative light just like physics! I don't mean to be all preachy but I hear this dumb @$$ statement alot too. :(

JNPN.... taking a different approach ....but funny thing is... i can afford an ivy.. i just choose not to, i like the challenge of getting merit scholarships. but to you, i applaud... someone trying to make sense of my rambling. i wish this was a "hidden message puzzle game"... you'd win... i guess i soundlike someone who can't afford it... hmm.. nope.... but i like speaking up for the many people where i live,,... who can't afford it and are smart.

Given the choice between Rutgers for free and Stanford (which is not an ivy but a top school...just as you mentioned) for full tuition, I'd go to Stanford.

Now, if I had the choice to go to a non-ivy school like Duke with a 5-10K scholarship or Harvard with full tuition, I may chose Duke.

when it comes down to it, you are basically asking why someone would choose a silver medal over a gold- if you can take the opportunity to go to a "better" school, and you like it, then why on earth wouldn't you?

for me a gold medal- means something earned by lots of hard work.... so "getting accepted" to an ivy means silver to me... getting a full tuition scholarship to a top school like duke, cal tech, chicago, or washington Stl. = gold medal.... it's all about how you look at things. and i know.... 96% of the ppl would go with your opinion on a "gold medal" not mine... that's why thank goodness.... life and more opinions exists outside of this website....

GA, I'm not saying you couldn't afford an ivy, I'm saying your lack of argumentative competence and overall sense of logic make it apparent that you couldn't get accepted, whether or not you tried.

Can I have a source for THIS as well?

poor child poor child..... i could get it w/o lifting a finger.... it's called affirmative action.... and my first SATs were pretty low, but i still got tons of letters from ivies, and even a letter to attend a summer program free... transportation and all.... w/o regard to my financial status.

want a source.... read this entire thread.... everyone has the same opinion of ivies....opposite from mine......

oh and for getting in an ivy..... i do technically have a pretty high gpa, class rank, ap scores, ECs, leadership... ect... for anyone... minority or not..

GAclassof2008, i liked your post. I am glad people are still thinking of it that way.

i guess the way i look at it is, for me, my gold medal is cornell. not because it is an ivy, NO WAY, but because it has the best program for what i want to pursue, the perfect distance from home, the climate is what i like and am used to (weird i know), the rowing is top notch...it is everything i want.

then if i got into harvard....(i dont even want to apply), i still wouldn't go. i think that fits in the category of taking the silver instead of gold...

it is up to everyone, i totally agree. sorry if i tried to generalize the entire demographic. :)
