Why Yale question

What would the admissions office think if I mentioned my sister--having graduated from Yale last year--and her personal growth after Yale in my own response to "Why Yale" as part of their supplement?

My counselor's told me that although I shouldn't be banking on the "legacy" aspect of it (which I know doesn't really count for anything haha), it may provide a more personal connection between Yale and my application. And I see the value of his suggestion--I think it's a very good point! But I'm worried that if I did mention my sister, the officers may think of it as supplicating to Yale, as if I'm relying on that fact rather than the merits of my application.

Of course, I'm planning on relating how Yale has specifically helped my sister to myself, and what I would contribute back to Yale.

Thanks very much!

My S wrote about a student from his school and the growth he saw in her. So, I think writing about your sister would be even more relevant.

I think it’s fine once you make clear the impact it’s had on you and your decision to apply to Yale.
