Why Yale?

For all of you Yalees, why did you choose the school over other schools that you were admitted to?

Everyone at Yale is incredibly happy - even when they aren't drunk. Really. I've never seen such an euphoric group of people in my life.
Also, the academics can't be beat, and the campus is gorgeous.

I have to agree with the sheer happiness of the people here. I still have conversations with my friends about how lucky we are to be here, and I get a little giddy every time I look at Harkness Tower. Obviously, the academics can rival any university in the world, and the school is constantly alive with energy. The theater and music here are beyond belief, and people are genuinely enthused about taking advantage of all the opportunities the school has to offer. Right now, I'm doing a play, a musical, just got tapped by an a capella group, and took a swing dancing lesson earlier in the week. And in the last few days, we've had intimate discussions with John Ritter (U.N. Weapons Inspector), Marvin Hamlisch (Broadway composer), Sofia Coppola (director), and representatives of a Palestinian think tank.

I seem to have rambled quite a bit. What sorts of things are you interested in? People come here for a lot of different reasons, but I do feel that everyone has been similarly impressed with the quality of friends and classmates.

tycew, i keep looking for information about art students and the art department in general at yale, upenn, and stanford. do you have any friends in the art dept or have any first hand knowledge of it?

I have a few friends who are dabbling, but none who are art majors that I know of. There was an article in the new york times (?) a while back in which an economist recommended investing in student art from Yale. But unfortunately, I don't have much first hand knowledge.
