This is perhaps the funniest admissions story I've heard so far:

Someone I know got into Yale EA, but applied to Harvard RD "just so he could turn them down." His mother was talking to another parent a few weeks ago and told her about the joke ("Yes, well, he's going to Yale--got in Early--but he applied to Harvard so that he could turn them down! Wouldn't it be hilarious?").

Unfortunately for her, the fellow parent happened to be the wife of the local Harvard ASC chairman. I somehow doubt he'll be admitted.

I think they received their "backhand" already, lol. How mortifying that must have been...of all the people to tell, it happened to be the Harvard rep's wife....

to even assume that he'd be admitted is really pompous in my books

Sure he got into Yale, but with the 5% or whatever it is acceptance rate for the RD round, you gotta have a pretty big ego to assume you're going to get into harvard regardless of your stats and ecs

must of been some ignorant kid or parent or something b/c to assume that you would get into hvd just because u get into yale is pretty out there

Just a follow-up to what I said earlier about MIT students... That's one of the things I love about Harvard, how it has good-natured rivalries with it's peer institutions. When I was at the H-Y football game (football recruit at the time) I almost died laughing at some of the stuff that was going on between the schools...
