<p>With decisions coming in less than a week, I think it's a good idea for us to lower our expectations so we can better accept a rejection if it comes. I'll start with why I will get rejected:</p>
<p>-Really lazily written and generic essays that reveal nothing about me
-No leadership experience at all
-Too much focus on one passion (i.e. no roundness)
-One of the teacher recs and the counselor rec will be mediocre at best
-ORM
-Male in engineering (im okay with this disadvantage, girls have it tougher in life as a whole, yay stereotypes! :p)
-Less than good third sat ii , world history (why did i take 3 tests !?!)
-Writing section may not count much :(</p>
<p>(Believe it or not, this felt more relieving than depressing)</p>
<p>-writing section doesnt count as much
-no sports
-not that great world history sat II
-4 other people from my school are applying
-my rank is top 17% right now
-my school has a bad rep with cornell</p>
<p>hoping that letter never comes, but to be real with it..</p>
<p>-bad luck .. probably true for most kids on here
-only 25th %tile scores
-grades were bad 9th grade/ gpa isn't that great
-not enough awards/leadership
-school messed up sending school report so it came later/typos?
-location/school?</p>
<p>-word. my sats RIGHT at the lower end of the mid 50%
-location [ny]
-essay is ok. supplement essay doesnt focus much on CAS specifically
-not enough leadership
-gpa is right at the A range
-a million people from my school are applying [like +50]
-ORM
-i did a lot of extracurriculars but didn't list all cause i followed their directions to only list the "important" ones... shiet lol</p>
<p>its hilarious how many of us will get in despite our apparent "flaws"</p>
<p>1) lack of strength in sciences (applying to HumEc)
2) too much roundedness (could be seen as a lack of passion in one area)
3) Mediocre interview
4) I have no idea how my recs were
5) crappy math score...</p>
<p>1) Extremely low CR and W SAT scores
2) So-so grades
3) Aplying as a junior, which might lead to higher standarts
4) Councelor rec. was generic at best
5) My ED Essay was so-so</p>
<p>Cool, two more i rembered while reading your posts, revised list:
-Really lazily written and generic essays that reveal nothing about me
-No leadership experience at all
-Too much focus on one passion (i.e. no roundness)
-One of the teacher recs and the counselor rec will be mediocre at best
-ORM
-Male in engineering
-Less than good third sat ii , world history
-Writing section may not count much
-No sports for school teams (i had one out-of-school athletic activity)
-Only talked about one subject in all my essays and the whole app (engineering)</p>
<p>Ten good reasons why I should be rejected lol...</p>
<p>Yes..I'm definitely in my pessimistic mood, so:
1). HORRIBLE SAT II scores
2). Meh common app essay..though I found a way to make it connect to Cornell in a clever way in the end
3). mediocre rec from English teacher and counselor
4). rank isn't all that since I transferred from a competitive magnet school to a super easy non-competitive rural HS, soooo a bunch of dumb people are ranked higher than me
5). I feel like I forgot to emphasize a lot of my summer activities and work experience I had
6). I am Asian =(
7). I HAVE BAD LUCK!!!!!!!!!! =(</p>
<p>SAT is low
Took too many easy courses (imo)
Sent in 1st quarter grades w/o cornell asking me to and they were not that good
1 essay is really good, but the important supplemental one imo stinks
Afraid that because I do a lot that I will look like a serial joiner (i really am devoted, though!).
No one in my family has a building at cornell named after them.
No sports, so no recruiting chance.
Like 20 ppl are applying from my school (no joke!)
My luck is a sukin this year with things in general.
I'm a WASP, and I'm proud! lol. also a guy going into a science field/applying to a competitive major...thats pretty much all I can think of thats going against me!</p>
<p>We should just pretend we're native americans on our applications and write our essays about how the sky turned colors when the buffalo ran and ran thru, and wear a feather and turquoise necklace to our interviews and offer the interviewer wompum and a whiff of the piece pipe and we'll be in 123!</p>
<p>-No focus point (i'm totally undecided!)
-No major awards
-Essays aren't amazing
-Was not contacted for an alumni interview (I called up and requested one, but was denied)
-No sports
-College admissions are totally random!</p>
<p>13 is my lucky number so lets find 13 flaws</p>
<p>1) 550 CR on SAT (IT SUCKS)
2)650 on Math II SAT II and I want to be a math major (that sucks)
3)I am very poor lol, my mom cant afford to pay in cash (i heard Ivys care about that even tho they say theyre "need blind"
4)Horrible freshmen year (I got a C in AP Bio)
5) I got a 1 on AP Bio and 1 on AP Physics
6)Sent in my resume with a mistake on it (hahaa, my bad lol)
7)I am ASIAN!!!! (Japanese and Korean but I said Japanese bc its less competition I would think? lol, whatever)
8) Location, I am from CA-LEE-FOR-NEE-UH (Terminator is the governor lol)
9) My school has only had 1 student get accepted and go in the HISTORY of my school (my school is over 40 years old YIKES)
10) I applied as a math major and I got a 3 on the AP Calc BC exam (shouldnt they expect a 5 is I want to major in math??)
11) I do everything so it might look like I am not passionate in one thing
12) I have not won many awards, like National Merit Scholar is competely foreign to me lol
13) I do a team but I stink so chances at athletic recruitment is bad lol</p>
<p>o and nishdawg reminded me, I Have not had an alumni interview and I know for a fact that a Cornell graduate lives 15 minutes from my house.</p>
<p>also, my supplement essay comes off as TOTAL BS!! i talked about how a certain subject is my passion and it is true. If you knew me, you would kno it was not total bs but cornell admissions ppl dont kno me so they are gonna think its bs lol</p>
<p>Let me see:
- Went through rough time in Freshmen/Sophmore year-> Bad Cumulative & I am only ranked top Quartile. (Damn School Politics) **Wrote Adcom a letter explaining the personal reasons for Poor Fresh grades
- Umm, basically I am too nice to my peers. Gave up some AP spots because (blank) wants to become a writer and I dont. Lol
- I never studied for the SAT, which gave me an 1800 when I applied. But, since I am not stupid, my score fluctates; if deffered, I get to send in my 2200 :)
- Umm, most important, I have visualized getting accepted in my head, and that kind of happiness and joy just doesnt usually happen to me.</p>
