Why's Mason third tier?

There haven't been any posts for awhile. What's new? With all the new programs and dorms it's surprising that Masons 3rd tier? What do students think of these ratings? How is the construction and the new dorms? Any word on more resident students and things to do on the weekends?

Don't get caught up in the whole tiering meme. GMU has a lot to offer including the excellent Economics Department which includes Walter Williams and Emeritus Nobel Laureate Vernon Smith.

I agree, the more I find out, the more impressed I am. Do you know anything about the global affairs or pubilc/international affairs majors?

There's no substitute for visiting and finding out what opportunities graduates of the program have gone on to do.

GMU is an affiliate (not full) Member of the Association of Professional Schools for International Affairs. This might be a line of inquiry with the department chair.

Add to Global Affairs and International Affairs programs in International Conflict Resolution, International Business, and an additional interdisciplinary program in internatinal relations. All of the D.C. area universities do a pretty superior job in this field - not surprising given the abundance of talent in this area.

As for rankings...Check out the latest version that ranked Mason the #1 school to watch in THE NATION!!! the more traditional rankings have a huge weighting on how much money the school spends - there are virtually no schools founded in the last 50 years that have any chance of getting into the top tier without a medical school to expend vast resources - spending moves your rank MUCH higher. If only we wasted more money! ;-)
