<p>OK, the answer is no error.
However, if you delete the "may", then the sentence is grammatically incorrect due to subject-verb agreement.</p>
<p>What does the "may" act as, that allows "conceal" to be in plural form?</p>

<p>“May” is a modal verb and doesnt have a 3rd person subject-verb agreements through adding “s” at the end of the verb.</p>

<p>P.S. I am not sure why you call it “weird exception”. IMHO, there is absolutely nothing weird about that. Try substituting “may” with, for instance, “could”.</p>
