Wifi @ MIT

How ubiquitous is wifi throughout campus? In dorms?

[MIT IS&T: Wireless Network Coverage](http://web.mit.edu/network/wireless-map.html)

Wow, thanks. That was a perfect answer for the dorms half of the question (no sarcasm, sorry if it sounds that way)
Is there any wifi just walking around campus?

I was wondering that too. The map doesn’t show it, so how is wifi in places like Killian Court or near the Kresge?

I’ve used my laptop both in Killian Court and Kresge.

I mean, if you’re within distance from a wireless “transmitter-device-thingy,” you should get wireless regardless of where you are, inside or outside.

ps. MIT has wireless coverage in the Kendall Food Court, Cosi’s, Au Bon Pain (if this means nothing to you - they’re all eateries near Kendall Square, at the northeast corner of campus) even though they’re not MIT buildings.

The wifi here is wonderful  I’ve never been on campus and failed to get wifi - and as Chris mentioned, it reaches beyond that too.

Heh, I remember that while in the van to Epsilon Theta during CPW, someone had his laptop out and was able to get MIT wireless for almost the whole trip. Apparently it was coming from all the buildings MIT owns off-campus.

I will say that inside some of the dorms (EC, for example) you may have issues with wireless, but you can always use an ethernet cable instead, which will give you super fast and awesome internet.

Our internet is basically better than any internet you will ever have for the rest of your life, for the most part. I have reached download speeds of ~7kb/sec downloading stuff off of people’s publics using ethernet.

^Yeah, I have to admit that it was difficult to get used to residential internet speeds after I moved off campus two years ago. Sometimes I have to wait for internet pages to load, and it drives me insane.

(I wish I were being sarcastic.)

Residential internet in the Longwood Medical Area seems to work just as well as MIT’s for me…
