im planning on buying a wireless printer for my dorm room and therefore will need a wifi internet connection available in my room. A lot of people suggest using wireless routers instead of the ethernet cord but are there any cons to doing this(slower internet?)? and is using a wireless router even allowed?

Depending on your printer you won’t necessarily need a wireless router. My roommate had a wireless printer and it didn’t need a wireless router. Wireless routers are allowed, you just need to register it with rescomp. They can be a little slower, but you can also switch between using the router and ethernet all you want.

how would you connect the wireless printer without a wireless network? Also, in order to switch between the router and ethernet, i would have to take both a wifi router and an ethernet cable right? (Sorry, just need to be sure)

At least with my roommate’s computer, it had it’s own wireless signal, so it showed up as a wireless network and you just connected it. The printer didn’t need to be connected to the internet.

You need an ethernet cable for the router anyway.
