Does UCSD offer WiFi all over campus? If yes, is it password-protected?

yes to both, but they have a guest network where you just have to enter an email

So if I’m a student, am I going to have to put in my email or something every time? Or am I going to have access to that password?

Yeah I think most people just use the UCSD-Guest network and enter in their email address every time they use it.

uhh…not sure how MOST people do it, but its ****ing annoying to enter your e-mail all the time and wait for that page to refresh.

Once you are a student you’ll be able to download a ‘certificate’ and set up your computer to work on UCSD’s password protected network everytime w/o a password. Highly recommended. If you cant figure it out yourself, go to ACMS and they should be able to help you.

About halfway through the year, UCSD sent me an email telling me to stop using the Guest network. Students are supposed to download the certificate and use UCSD-protected, which automatically signs you in once they have your username/password registered.

The wi-fi also didn’t reach my dorm room, so I had to get a router :(

Is it the same for smart-phones?

I highly recommend for dorm use, to bring a ethernet chord. It’s way faster than using wifi.

@zotova12: Yes, smart phones can log on to both protected and guest as well. Protected is recommended.
