This is important enough to have its own thread.

After deciding to come to Tufts, the best decision you will make is to do Tufts Wilderness Orientation. It is a 5-day, 4-night backpacking (canoeing, hybrid, or trail crew) trip in which 2 upperclassmen leaders (typically one male, one female, one junior, one senior) lead 8 freshmen through the woods/rivers of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Trips are designed for beginners, but advanced backpackers can participate in Trail Crew.

This is the best way to get to know a core group of people before you even get to orientation, as well as have 2 upperclassmen who will become your friends and can advise you probably better than your advisor will. Also, simply by virtue of participating in Wilderness you meet people in other groups and become friends just because you did Wilderness. Seriously, I think that every party I went to this year (and that's a lot of parties...) I met people who did Wilderness and it's like "omg you did wilderness?! i did wilderness! what group were you in? who were your leaders? ohh thats awesome i know .... etc..."

Basically, ITS AWESOME and YOU HAVE TO DO IT.

Cost: I think its like $200, but I don't really remember, I do know there is financial aid, though. The equipment can be pretty expensive if you buy it all, but you don't have to buy it, you can rent it for MUCH cheaper.

Most international kids do IO, but some do Wilderness. I have a friend from Singapore who did TWO because its wayyy cooler than IO and if you are international then you meet all the international kids anyway.

Has anyone gotten any paper work from Tufts relating to orientation? health forms etc? I thought that we would get that stuff in mid-to late May.
Anybody know anything?

well, you get to meet international kids, move in early, and i know everyone just starts drinking in their rooms immediately. not really my thing, but whatever.

If you signed up for a pre-orientation, do you get to move into your dorm early, or do your parents have to come back with you stuff on the 30th?
