I saw that and posted in the Pepperdine forum. I hope the students feel safe. I wonder if the campus is at any greater risk than "average" for S. Cal.

It seems like Malibu has more fires and mudslides that the rest of the coast, probably because of the canyon topography. I hope the fire is contained quickly!

Yes, there are often fires in Malibu, Zuma, Topanga, and other such canyons. That said, Pepperdine is in a pretty developed area of Malibu canyon. I would be surprised if a massive fire really made it there.

I actually just drove through it about an hour or so ago on my way home (LB) from my grandparents' house in Modesto, and it looks better but there's still little fires going.

Better than the ones from 3/4 years ago, those burned for like a week straight.

Thomas Aquinas College (Ventura County) evacuated all students and staff for a weekend during the "Day Fire" in Sept. 2006. The fire burned for more than a month.

saw on the news this AM that a number of Pepperdine students had huddled in the cafeteria with masks....sounds like the immediate danger has past them now.

The immediate threat of wildfires may be past, but if you read their Emergency Information page you may not want to get up in the morning:
