I got a 3.0 my freshman year. So far i have 3 years left of high school to improve. But since i did so bad freshman year... does that mean i cant get into top univeristies or Ivies??

Stanford and University of Michigan both ignore freshman year. A lot of other colleges give it less weight. What is more troubling is how you're going to give your GPA the 0.5+ jump that it needs.

im not dumb i just slacked off freshman year...but im willing to improve...i just need to know if i still have a chance or not.

Most colleges don't look at freshman year for the exact same reason that you got a 3.0 (most people slack of that year, and it doesn't give a good estimation to how hard working/smart someone else).

Just try your hardest the next couple years, and you'll be fine. Remember, colleges are getting more and more competitive, so make sure you keep those grades up as high as you can.

I wasn't implying that you were, but I know from personal experience that slacking is a hard habit to break.

i pretty much jacked up freshman year myself. sophmore year i did much better. and junior year i got ONE A, 3 B's, 2 C's, and one D+...:| i took 3 AP classes and my grades ended uplike that.. and i'm a senior now. i'm thinkin my only chance of gettin into the college i want is to get amazing scores on my SAT and ACT.. but i dont know if i can do that...:| do you think i'm screwed or what?

The University of California schools don't look at freshman grades.

alright thanks everyone. any more replies/comments would be helpful..

pkgill03,

RELAX... BREATHE...

You've asked some form of this question many times already, and you've received good responses. With 3 years of high school left, just focus on doing the best you can. The bad news is that you slacked off your freshman year, but the GOOD NEWS is that you have time to recover. If you're a California resident, and you think you might want to apply to the UC system in a couple of years, you're fortunate because the UC system ignores your freshman year grades.

Now, stop worrying and get focused on the more tangible matters of learning, acquiring and applying knowledge, honing your critical thinking skills, improving your verbal/written communications, and discovering what interests you. Good luck to you over the next couple of years.

ok thanks lol...im not a california resident though

princeton also does not look at frosh grades
