Will a 4 on an AP test hurt my chances to Oxford?

I'm an American student applying to Oxford (and four other schools in the UK) and I recently got my AP exam scores back. They were mostly good with one 4 in Microeconomics which I self-studied. I'm worried because I want to do PPE.

I have a 34 ACT and 5s in US history, Euro history, Macroeconomics, Spanish Language and English Language. Is the 4 going to harm my chances because it's the subject I would be studying? Do they have to know about it?

For PPE it is a problem- it is ok to not have done economics, but having done it Oxford will want to see a 5, even if self-studied. It is not necessarily fatal, given that you have a 5 in macro, and other good scores. But- PPE is a very competitive course, even for Oxford, and it is the one that most Americans apply to. So, most of the people who are applying for PPE will have all A’s on their A-levels or 5’s on their APs. But- the tutors at Oxford are seriously looking for the students who have the ability and the potential to be outstanding in their subject. So, go ahead and apply- who knows what will happen?!

This “4” won’t really hurt you, Oxford will just ignore it as if you never took the test in the first place. You have enough "5"s to get into Oxford, and with the subjects you have "5"s in you have some choice in which program.

Thanks for the help! I’m still going to apply and cross my fingers. :)
