This might seem silly, or totally justified, but I am anticipating a 'B' in my AP Chemistry class at the end of the semester. I am a straight A student otherwise, but I'm just concerned that this grade will hinder my chances at admission into Harvard, Yale, or Princeton, the three Ivies that I applied to. It just seems as though students need nearly perfect grades to be admitted. I am confident in the other aspects of my application. Am I just overreacting?

You’re fine

No to the first question, yes to the second. Straight A’s are scrutinized a bit-- does the student go to a school where there is grade inflation? Does he/she have extra curriculars? Did he/she do other things apart from studying? Is the courseload particularly rigorous? How hard is the school? These all are questions asked by adcoms.

Okay, thanks. I have strong ECs, and my school is the best in the area, but the schools in the area aren’t that great, so that’s not saying much. Thanks for the prompt responses!
