Will a B junior year...

Hello!
I was wondering if a B in IB English 1 my junior year affect my chances of getting into say, Stanford, UOC, Columbia, Duke, etc.. This is my first B during high school and I'm most likely getting it. Currently, without the B I have a 4.5 weighted GPA and a 4.0 GPA unweighted. Will this one B my junior year affect my chances? I'm taking the ACT and my practice test score with no studying at all is a 32. I've earned 5th at State's, with my group, at the National History Day documentary category(I'm the leader/captain) my sophomore year and competed in the National Moot Court competition I'm Washington,D.C. As you can see, I am enrolled in the IB program(yay) so the majority of my classes are weighted starting freshmen year.

I am an Asian female.

So are my chances look up, straight-ahead, or down :(

Sorry for the typos, I typed this whole thing on my Ipod Touch :-/

Also to add, my school is extremely rigorous. With my GPA, I am ranked in the 20s out of like 400 students… This years graduating class they are sending 6 early decisions to Stanford, 2 early decisions to Caltech 3 to MIT… And so forth. I do go to a public school, but it hosts the IB program.

no it will not hurt very much if at all since it seems like you have an A in everything else. if you had multiple B’s it would hurt a bit, however i dont think a B in a single english class will hurt.

good luck, you probably have a pretty good chance of getting into at least one of those schools.

A B will not significantly impact your chances. As long as you demonstrate adequate academic proficiency to the elite college admissions committees, you’re fine and they then begin looking at your essays and extracurriculars. This is why 2400’s SAT’s and straight A’s get rejected every year from the top schools while 2200’s and supposedly average GPA’s are accepted every year.

So to conclude, don’t stress too much over that one B, you are well past the academic threshold and should focus more of your attention on your extracurriculars and your essays when you get there.

It’s one B in an IB class. You’ll be fine.

Thank you thank you everyone T______T I’ve been dying inside over this. To add about ECs: National History Day (1st in county, 5th at State Finals), National Moot Court Competition (our school got 2nd overall best)–technically international because a school from Korea was there, Dance (since I was 6)–both cultural and modern dances. Piano for about 7 years, Rec Soccer for about 7-8 years (our team won first in division one in a regional comeptition), and I’m planning on joining our schools History Bowl team this year.

Guess no one wants to chance me :frowning: I will chance back!
