Calm down. People are trying to help you on a topic you posted and you’re snapping at them? Hypocritical much?

Re-read her post. Keyword: may require. At many colleges, CMU econ included, it is often expected that if you did not have access to AP courses, you could have taken local community college courses or the highest maths available to you at your school. If neither of those amounts to an opportunity to take calc - IE you live in a very low-income school district or something - then that’s fine, they’ll give you a pass on it.

Not sure if ■■■■■■■■… or just wildly immature.

I think you don’t know what hypocrite means.

I mean, I’m sort of fed up with the nonsensical comments I’m getting, especially when they’ve run contrary to what I’ve stated. Comments like this:

Why didn’t you take the SAT II Math (not, why haven’t you taken it) -> Said I hadn’t taken it yet

Tepper requires XYZ -> Said I wanted econ at HSS

Tell them school required you to take AP Calc -> Am I supposed to lie on my application? I never mentioned why I took the AP Calc test.

A 650 on Spanish looks competitive -> It’s about the 50th percentile

You might not have enough math credits - Frankly, one of the most bewildering comments directed to me on a rather ridiculous message board

It’s good that I read this place for entertainment rather than take such comments at face value. Then I might be in a worse off place than I already am.

No college explicitly states what sort of math they require besides the years taken, so her advice was useless.

Just one more opinion, but you sound very competitive for H&SS. I wouldn’t worry about what you can’t change, the numbers sound pretty good. Very few people have perfect scores of all types. Just put in your best application, realize that this is not a safety school for many people (which it sounds like you do), be enthusiastic and it is very likely you’ll get accepted.

I feel like I come from a similar background - Asian female (not really a minority, either) from a top performing, wealthy HS. Similar SAT scores.

From my point of view, you’ve got a good shot at HSS. The way I’m seeing your application: you’re a capable student. You’ve got good extracurriculars. Just tie it in all together and convince them that you as a person really shine in spite of your GPA AND have the ability to do exceedingly well.

I got in with a 3.2 GPA. Probably what got me in was a serious devotion to my ECs. I really only had a few main ones and that was it (not even any side ECs), but I really took them pretty far. However, IMO what seriously clinched it was my supplementary essay - why I wanted to major in CS and Logic.

Misc note: I applied RD. I have no idea what kind of effect this has on my application. Also, my advice may just be completely off the mark/I was an exception/this won’t happen to you but I just prefer to see things in a positive light ;D

You really do need to calm down. As CKate said–you’re really immature. I’ll just assume you’re angry and stressed – college admissions is stressful, but your nastiness is unwarranted. People at CMU really work together and if you like to find the fault in others, people will soon shy away from working with you.

It’s only September-- you have 6 full months until college decisions – if you have this much angst now, you’re going to be a basket case end of March.

People were genuinely trying to help. Sitting around picking apart all our responses isn’t going to help you get much more support here from me.

Look at the past years’ chances threads. You shouldn’t worry about HSS, MCS, or even CIT. The only big worry would be CS or CFA (since CFA admissions are generally not GPA-based).
I got into MCS with a Sophomore-Senior GPA of like 3.4 or something.
