Will a bad SAT score rule you out?

I have SAT scores above 750 for critical reading and writing, but my math is a 620 (it used to be a 540, and it took me a lot to even get it up to a 620, so it is doubtful I'll be able to bring it up higher)

I have good EC's, recommendations, and will write a good essay....

My question is basically: Will highly selective colleges (like Columbia or Stanford) rule someone who is otherwise a good canidate out because they are out of their range for one section of the SAT?

How much of a factor will my math score be?

Depends on the major/program you’re applying for - some schools might look at the math more closely if it’s a math/science/engineering major…not as close for something humanities related. It won’t kill your chances completely of admission since they’ll also be looking at the other factors in your profile like grades and essay etc.
