Will a C+ drastically affect my chances for admission into a semi-selective college?

I am usually an all A/B+ student....until now. Due to a schedule complication this year, I was literally forced to take honors physics. I am only in Advanced Algebra/ Pre-Calc this year while everyone else in the class is a calculus student. It has to be one of the classes I try my hardest in, but unfortunately this quarter I will most likely end up with an 84%, which is a C+ at my school, not a B like in most schools. Will this effect my chances of getting admitted to a semi-selective college or into an honors college?

I am also very interested in Clark University. Could I be accepted there with a C+ for the quarter?

This grade makes me very sad. :(

One subject? I mean, they’ll see it, but I don’t think it will be a killer if your GPA is still high and if it is clear you are a humanities person vs. a mathy/sciency person.

I believe
colleges don’t see quarterly grades…

Your an idiot

For Clark University?
You seem like an excellent student with an already established academic record.
I think Clark would be making a mistake not to accept you simply for one C+. Best of luck!

yeah if its on your quarter grade they wont see it unless they ask, but also dont be afraid to send a note with your transcripts, something short and friendly.
i was in the same situation this year, i had to take AP GOV/ECON and at my school is considered to be one of the HARDEST ap’s to take, so anyways i’v been struggling with it all year and then Emerson College asked to see my most recent grades which showed that i had a D in the class at the moment! I freaked out, but, i sent the grades and said something like " as a side note for my grade in my ap gov/econ class i just wanted to say that all my assignments that are supposed to be counted into my grade have not and therefore i have a lower grade at this time), it was a lot more professional then that, but anyways, i got accepted to emerson so i guess it didnt effect me that much, and its not like emerson is an easy school to get into, so just keep working to raise the grade and chances are they wont care to much.

@Soccer102592, “You’re”. moron.

OP: Don’t worry about it. I doubt they’ll lower your chances significantly with one lower grade.

Additionally, if the school sees your grading scale they will most likely convert it to a regular B since across most of the US an 84 is a B.

It would be helpful to have some additional detail about your stats. What type of school do you attend? Board scores? ECs and leadership positions? Any hooks? Are you a URM?
Have you visited Clark and interviewed?

Are you sure your school puts quarter grades on the mid-year report? They may not–I know my school only puts final year grades on the transcript, and final semester grades (first and second quarter and midterm) on the midyear.

You can also let Clark know that you have an 84. If I end up with a B in Chem this year (my grading scale is the same as yours), I plan I letting colleges know that this is comparable to an A- on a regular grading scale. When they recalculate your GPA, they will likely use a B instead of a C+.
