Will a C in a summer session hurt my transfer chances badly?

I am currently taking 2 summer classes straight out of high school at a CC. In one class I will finish with a A and the second class will be a high C, they are both 3 credits each and I am hoping to transfer to UCSB in one year. Will this C hurt me tremendously if I want to transfer to UCSB?

Grades, like any other part of your application, and either hurt or help you depending on how you present them. A “C” grade on its own may be a red flag to an admission office, but a “C” with an explanation might not be. For instance, if you took an advanced class in an area that you have traditionally struggled in, but persevered and used all of the resources open to you to get that “C” it will look better than if you got a C for missing assignments.

Think about how you present the C to your preferred school. It rarely helps to hide the parts of your application that make you nervous, but if you address them with maturity and in a way that shows self reflection, they might work for you.

A “C” will not hurt your chances into getting into a university. You could retake the class but as long as your graduate with an associates from that CC then you should be fine. Just make sure to keep up your grades and don’t fall below a “C” because that will not transfer.

I had just gotten an C also… Luckily I have two more semesters left before I transfer, so im not at all worried about my GPA. The reason I had got the C in the first place was because I missed the midterm equaling about 100 points But, thats neither here nor there. If you can retake the class that would be great!
