will a dual degree make me competitive in the job market?

hello,

I am planning on doing a dual degree in journalism (emphasis in PR), and electrical engineering with a minor in renewable energy (overlaps with engineering as far as classes). I am currently a journalism and environmental science major, but I am not sure if that will get me to my career goal. I want to either be in PR for a power company (but I'm not even sure if jobs like that exist), or engineering manager. I want to be able to work for a technical company, help direct projects, etc in more of an office scene. I prefer to tell people what the company is doing, handle the media, clients, and travel to speak at conferences.

After that I would like to get a MEM (master of engineering management) from one of the schools that offers them. I've also thought of a MBA.

am I going down the right path for what I want to do? or am I about to waste a lot of time and money?

I don’t have much opinion on your specifics but I like the combo of a writing-intensive major with a quantitative one. My D (not that she consulted me) majored in Math and Government and did very well in the job market: one job application, one interview, one hire.

same here doing the engineering and econ. hard, takes a lot of my time and money. I hope it’ll work! =D

Engineering and renewable energy will make you highly employable. Journalism is a sinking ship.
