So, I took the Subject Tests back in June, and I did not do as well as I had hoped on U.S. History. But, I just got my AP US results back, and I'm pretty happy.

APUS: 5
SAT II US: 760

I know that 760 is a good score, but it's not the score that I was hoping for, and I'm really worried that I will be one of the only few applicants with <800s on his or her Subject Tests. I guess I set my standards too high and got hit by reality. So, will my AP Score "compensate" (for the lack of better terms) for my SAT II Score? And how much will that 760 affect my chances at the good schools with admissions rate at or below 40%?
Thank you.

No. Higher AP Scores do not “compensate” for lower SAT II Scores, just like higher SAT/ACT scores do not “compensate” for a lower GPA.

Many students, mine included, were admitted to a wide range of selective colleges with SAT Subject Test scores in the 700 to 760 range. Stop worrying about your 760 – it’s a fine score.

You have got to be kidding lol. On what planet is a 760 a bad score!?!!? No school is going to reject you for 40 points. Hell, no school would reject you just for one subject test being below 750 or having a 3 on an AP test. I really don’t understand this obsession.

Thanks for replying @gibby and @noel597. Yes, 760 is a good score, but compared to the students applying to the schools I will be applying to, not considering my ECs, anything less than 800 puts me at a disadvantage (especially because of my ethnicity). I’m Asian, in case my username isn’t clear enough haha.

I’m sorry if I had came off as rude or condescending. I’m have a tendency to fall into mood swings after visiting the CollegeBoard website.

Nooo lol it won’t put you at a disadvantage. I got into Penn and Dartmouth and washu and nu and a BUNCH of other great schools with 800 Math II, 780 Bio M, 750 US History lol

Maybe this will calm you down. Ivy League schools and some other colleges use the Academic Index (AI) to gauge an applicant’s overall strength. Plug your SAT scores, your SAT Subject Test scores, and with your GPA and class size into the calculator and see what score you get. The higher your score the more secure you should feel. It’s no guarentte that you will be accepted to the college of your choice, but it may calm your anxiety a bit: http://www.collegeconfidential.com/academic_index.htm

@noel597 These are very, very impressive schools. Congrats! I’m in a small shock right now. You definitely have a stronger STEM background than I do. Good luck on everything. (:

@gibby I really liked the AI Calculator – and yes, you are right. I think I’m feeling better now that I could get a glimpse of the accumulation of my academic records in a simple and concrete fashion. Let’s hope I don’t get senioritis haha.

@shawnspencer Great. But my Math II score is pretty iffy (they are nowhere near 700s). Haha, I ran out of time when I got to the last few questions. Not the best Saturday morning memory but at least I could retake it.
