Will a Low SAT Essay Score Affect My Chance of Getting in a Non-Essay Required School?

I am a senior in high-school, and currently applying to colleges. I took my first SAT November 5th 2016, I knew the essay portion wasn’t required for most schools at this time, but I figured it was better to take it, and have it, rather than needing it and not having it. However, halfway through the essay portion of the test I realized that I was running out of time and I needed to start writing. Rushing through my essay caused me to get an extremely low score on the essay portion.
I was wondering, if I apply to UW (and other universities that do not require the essay), could this possibly affect my chances getting in?
I don’t have enough time to retake the SAT

NAh I doubt it. You’ll be fine for sure for the schools that don’t require the essay.

Even schools that require the essay score don’t care about what score you got, as long as you took it.

^^ That really doesn’t make sense. Why require an applicant to take the essay if the score doesn’t matter at all?
