I only want to work about 5 hours a week but I’m worried it will affect my aid for next year.
No, it shouldn’t. For fafsa you have to make more than $6310 in a tax year before it counts toward your EFC. If any income is from need based aid such as federal work study that amount won’t count toward the $6310. For their own aid schools that use profile or their own finaid form are going to have an allowance that it doesn’t count against you. Some schools have a required student contribution from work and aren’t going to penalize you for meeting or exceeding that some.
5 hours a week? That’s like $50 a week assuming wage rate is $10/h just for simplicity. You won’t even have to file a tax report if you don’t want to. It won’t affect your aid for sure.
