Will a really good recomendation letter hurt my chances?

Hi all!

My teacher, who I know VERY well, said that she was going to write me a really really good recommendation letter. I thought that this was good, until she said that she was planning to write at least 2 pages—probably 2 ½ pages. I wanted to tell her not to, but I felt sort of bad.

Will this excessively long recommendation letter hurt me? I know her for a long time, but I think that it will, because it may irritate the admission officer.

Thanks so much

This is silly. Why would a school hold it against you because a teacher wrote a lot? Calm down.

I'm worried that they might get irritated. Also, it might be 2.75 pages.

A teacher's letter of rec is not like your essay. Chances are admins will just skim through it; they won't get irritated.

....

I'm still amazed that you asked that question.

OMG, 2.75 pgs will waitlist you AT LEAST!!!! better run and tell her not to.

are you kidding, vc? In my humble opinion, a 2+ page recommendation says volumes about the type of person you are. If your teacher is so willing to write you a 2 page recommendation, she must really like you. Therefore, even if the recommendation is long, they aren't going to read it verbatim. Even then, they should realize that a lot of content often bodes well upon the applicant.

Thanks all!

I ain't worried no more no more! I ain't worried no more no more! Oh baby, I ain't worried no more no more!

dude thats not your fault, i dont see why u have to worry

you are lucky. seriously.

Yeah my teachers are too lazy to write long essays for us.

How long is the average teacher recommendation?

OH NOOOOO!!!! I think I forgot to mention something!

I will have 5 recommendation letters--councilor, 3 Teacher, one mentor.

Will that change things?

A long recommendation will not hurt your chances. Sending more recommendations than the college actually wants is more likely to hurt than help you, unless all of the letters have some unique angle.

hahaha.....what type of question is that??!

You seem to have quite a few letters... how many did the college actually ask for?

Hello, I have a question about rec letters too...
The college I'm applying to asks for two academic teacher recommendation letters, but does 'academic' only imply academic subjects?
I take choir as one of my school subjects and my choir teacher is willing to write me an excellent rec letter but choir isn't an academic subject..
So does it mean that I can't submit my choir teacher's rec letter to the college?

is this a troll post?

I don't think I've ever heard of a college asking for 5 recs... 3 at most...

It will kill your chances.

I mean, the mere fact that you were able to connect with a teacher on a higher level and show your social skills with a knowledgeable person is ... APPALLING!

And make sure you don't write a good admissions essay, admissions officers frown on good writing skills and the ability to express yourself.

But the major killer is when you have good grades. Do not, under any circumstances, get good grades. Admissions officers take this as a sign of showboating and it will basically blacklist you at EVERY college.

These are the little-known facts of college admissions.

(*Note the sarcasm)

Tsk, tsk. I can hear admissions now,

"2.75 Page!? This kids teachers like him too much! We only want students with teacher who don't care! Psh, he must also have social skills. We don't want that! REJECT!"

-_- =D
