I have a mix of A's, A+'s, and A-'s at my school. A-'s are not easy to come by at my school. I have about 7 and am leading the GPA race by about .25-pretty considerable. My school counts A-'s, A's, and A+'s as 4.0...what will colleges do about the A-'s on my transcript, take them as a 3.0?

No. They take a holistic look at your transcript. Stop focusing so much on the minutiae. You are clearly an outstanding student.

Well, all my A-'s would drop my from a 4.0 to about a 3.6 if a- was a 3.0, I see that as reason to fret

In our school, A-'s are a 3.67.

But seriously, someone with a 3.98 versus someone with at 3.89 is NOT that different to a school. Apparently you've got the highest GPA in your school -- and that's not good enough for you? Stop trying for perfection. You will constantly be disappointed --with yourself, and with the world.

Besides, you GOT the A-'s, so that's history. Nothing you can do about it.

Life's too short to fret over this.

3.0? No, no, no. I don't think anyone considers an A- a 3.0, a B is a 3.0. An A- will be treated more like a 3.7, in some schools as a 4.0. It's nothing to worry about though, you clearly have a great GPA.

What worries me is your talk about the "GPA race". If you view school as a competitive race like that, you will only be dissappointed (and unpleasant to be around.)

I beg to differ with you OP. I strongly believe A-'s are easy to come by at your school. You want to know why? Your school gives out A+'s. As to your question, you have a 4.0. I've never heard of adcom's hating A-'s.

well you need a 100% for an A+, I've gotten 4 (3 in theology) and I'm #1 right now, so not too easy

My race for the highest GPA led only to making me irritating to everyone. Now I'm spending 2 yrs already in college trying to become someone to live with. Yeah, I got to give a valediction. Now I see I just should have lived, and I'm paying for an attitude I didn't need to have.

In general, basically, I think you're fine.

Why would your school count an A- as a 3.00? Anyway, if you are going to be a senior, how do you not know the weights of your grades?

my school doesn't, I was concerned bc I read that some colleges do (the CC I went to this summer did for instance, but probably bc it was ridiculously easy)
I was just concerned about my GPA dropping .5 and losing my chances at admission.

Will A-'s ruin my 4.0 in college addmissions?

No.

uhm, since when is an A- a 3.0?

no school in the world does that.
In college it is different, but usually an A- is a 3.7 so yeah.

Don't worry about it. It's the past. Focus on what you can do now. And A-s don't really matter too much.

Nahh you should be fine. At least it's an A.

1MX, just out of curiousity, what are your ECs?

Substantial ECs: Football (Ivy recruit, want to cut 10lbs so I can just play sprint rather than regular with such a time consumption).
Track/Field, Powerlifting and I own a business with $125-150k in sales for the past two years. Besides that...nothing important, I worked alot fresh/soph years though.

Huh. cool. the business is impressive.

imx,
you shouldnt worry too much about ur grades because ivy leagues look more for unique personalities rather than those who achieve only academically. colleges can detect college whores right away!!! Out valedictorian went to UCLA!
i myself had 3 Bs on my hs transcript and ill be attending yale next year. i was also accepted into princeton.

focus more on ur essay and extracurriculars(i.e. your business) because everyone applying have the same grades or close to it

GLUCK on college admissions :D
