I’m planning to apply to a certain department at a state school, but am worried since last year I applied to a different department. Would they be able to see this and would this negatively affect my application? Apologies if this is a dumb question, and thank you so much!
It is possible but it is not necessarily a negative. You might be more qualified for this department.

@xraymancs How will it look if you apply to two different depts at the same school? I have seen this at grad cafe forum. Say applying to Aerospace for MS and ME for an MS, both in same year.
@cali60 - At my institution, Illinois Tech, this has been visible in the past but may not be in the future with a new online admissions system. It is also possible that AE and ME programs are in the same department (they are at IIT) and so both applications will be visible by definition. Since the MS programs are usually self-funded, I don’t see any negatives with the different departments knowing about both applications.
