Yeah, you’re counselor is either extremely ill-informed or is being a straight-up jerk. Perhaps he’s just jealous that you still manage to maintain academic excellence even after going through surgery, while on the other hand, he probably couldn’t attain grades of your standards even while being healthy throughout high school career (just an assumption, I don’t know the man. From my experience, counselors are usually never put down their top students, so I sense some jealousy from him). My advise is to just be nice to him because, as you said, he’s writing your rec. Even though counselor recommendations don’t mean much if they’re impersonal, as many counselors have hundreds of kids to deal with, he can sabotage your chance at any good school through writing a spiteful one.

Thank you so much for the concern and advice! Unfortunately, I cannot report my counselor that effectively, as he is the headmaster’s brother. Truly, nepotism at its finest.

However, many students have had issues with him (including the ones that are currently attending or are alums of several excellent universities!) - especially with him not being willing to give on certain topics, which is probably the reason that he was given a full year off this upcoming year to spend time with his pregnant wife. I think the entire upper school (teachers included) is breathing a sigh of relief with this one.

Anyway, I was just having a major ughh period, exacerbated by other students (especially those from other schools) talking about getting all straight As (and then complaining about how their grading scale was soooo unfair and talking about how their school doesn’t do A+ or A-) … A B+ is close enough, especially if it was actually an A all year until midterms and finals were put into the equation!

I really just need to let this go! I have two weeks until school starts (seven week summer break), so I just need to relax and keep off of CC for a while.

If possible.

Thanks!
