Will a transfer to a better school help me get into my top schools EA?

@nghan716 alright, because I had a 3.0 freshman year, a 2.5 last year, and a slow start this year. I need to get at least a 3.0 this marking period, just for the sake of my own confidence. But, whatever happens, I am sure that I cannot truly succeed (or at least be fully content) at my current school. Which is a shame, considering that I’ve been in this town since kindergarten. But it all started going downhill (socially) for me in 8th grade…

Thanks anyways!

I would say as long as you show a big improvement in your GPA, (maybe increase from 2.7 to 3.0+) you’ll have a good chance at getting into your colleges. Schools like it when you improve I would say good match for loyola, miami, and temple

The only one I can speak for is MSU, and from what I know, they’ve gotten much tougher on admissions. My friend had a 3.5 and a 23 on his ACT and they pretty harshly deferred him, so I’d say if you bump your gpa up, it’d be like a 50-50 shot.

@jnthorne it could have been the 23 on his ACT.

One thing I have to ask is, would they average the GPAs from the two schools together? And because I have 15 absences this year, would those absences transfer over to my new school?

Thank you for chancing me on my thread. To be honest, I dont know too much about the schools your applying to and i am sorry i cannot give you any solid information.
However, I think your plan is good. Heres some pointers.
As a junior, you still have time (unlike me)
Try and aim as high as you can with your SATs. SATs are probably the easiest to do well on (compared to GPA and ECs). Study your butt off for a few months (itll be painful but it will pay off). Don’t be like me. I took a prep course for a year (paid $1000) and scored 1960. Then i studied for a summer and took it again and still only got 2150. My advice, dont do prep courses, get Barons and Princeton Review (they helped the most). The SAT General is not about how smart you are, its about how good you are at taking standardized tests which means practice actually makes perfect (ofc your gonna have to memorize grammar and math stuffs)

GPA wise, try for as high as you can. (pain to do but you wont regret it) I slacked off, never studied and while my friends are getting into Princeton, uPenn and Uchig and stuff, I am here, unable to get into a good uni. pay attention and keep notes in class and a little studying before tests should garuntee a 3.0+.

@renpei thank you for your advice. I’m actually taking SAT classes in February (pending if I actually stay in that school ofc). But if you recommend Barons and PR, then that would also be wonderful. The thing is, I do study before quizzes and tests, but only the night or so before, therefore I cannot retain much information and I wind up only getting as high as a B on some. But a great New Year’s Resolution would be to actually start giving at least 90% at my current school! :)

Honestly, they are all matches/low reaches!!! Make sure your essays are amazing and you are golden!! Thanks for chancing me btw!!!

I do not really know much about the schools on your list. But like the others, you should definitely try to raise your GPA and test scores regardless of the high school you are in.

I’m really not all that familiar with the schools on your list, but I have to stress that it’s IMPERATIVE that you not only raise your GPA, but focus on killing the SAT. Take a few subject tests you feel you’ll be in good shape for - you really want to show that your GPA is an unfair indicator of your academic ability.

You seem articulate and bright, though, so this shouldn’t be a challenge for you.

@wchristen89 thanks and no problem!

@loreneli @dubaitragedy yeah, that’s a great idea. My GPA doesn’t at all define my actual academic ability. I appreciate the compliment, and it shouldn’t be a challenge. The only challenge is putting my phone down and actually willing myself to study very hard. I’ve only given about 65% effort in this school, also compounded by the numerous attractive females alongside me. I’m very well-liked in my school as well, although the occasional girl thinks me a creep because I believe so many in my school (even freshmen - lots of them too) are pretty. Therefore, I feel that if/when I move/transfer, I’ll be in a far better position to improve because I won’t know any teachers. I’ll want to pleasantly surprise them with my effort, determination and intelligence. :)
