Will a "W" on my transcript affect admission chances?

I'm in my first year @ a California CC and I already have more than enough units to transfer (I went to CC during high school). My current UC-transferable GPA is a 3.87 and my overall GPA is a 3.60.

I really want to drop my English 103 class because I'm a little worried I won't be able to get an A in the class -- stupid, I know, but I really want a 4.0 this semester and this class is more philosophy than English anyway. However, I'm planning on applying as a Comms major to competitive schools (UCLA, Berk, SD, USC, Pepperdine) so if a "W" is worse on a transcript than a "B" than I'd probably just stick it out. Also, I have a C in a non-transferable Math class, so would a "W" and a "C" just ruin my chances for admission to these schools?

Our first three term papers are due on Wednesday, and the drop deadline for the class is exactly a week after that. Do you think I should drop?

I think one W wouldn’t be a problem, but many Ws would be. I would, however, make sure that this wouldn’t mess up financial aid before you do anything.
