I just received my SSAT results and I did really well in reading and verbal but very poorly (below 70th percentile) in quantitative. Will this affect my chances a lot? My overall score was a 96.
I don’t think so. Unless your quantitative score was below the 50th percentile, I wouldn’t worry. Schools mostly look at your overall percentile anyway.
As always depends on where you are applying. I do not think it is true that they “mostly look at your overall percentile” How are your math grades? Do you go to a school that offers a challenging math curriculum?
They will certainly take note of it, but it shouldn’t weigh down your application by much. As the previous poster mentioned, it depends on where you are applying, but also HOW you are applying-- what aspects of yourself are you trying to show the school? Which subjects do you really enjoy and wish to study more deeply into?
Thanks for the replies, guys! they were all super helpful
@LifeLongNYer good point my math grades are pretty solid: A-'s and A’s. I used to be in Advanced Math.
@theidoit also good point I definitely am making it clear that I am more of an english/history person than a math/science person. Math and science are my worst subjects and english and history are my best.
^Does this make a difference?
In my opinion, it does. The admissions office tries to accept groups of people with different interests. A lot of my classmates now may thrive in one subject, but do OK in another. But don’t let SSAT or ISEE scores drag you down. Some of my friends did terribly, but made up for it in their interviews, essays, etc.
it does but doesnt at the same time. You’re overall was still very good, just make up for it in other things(:
thanks guys!
