Will adding a double major and taking an extra year and a half to graduate affect me negatively?

I am a neuroscience major and I want to get into an MPH Epidemiology program.

My first two years I really messed up, and had a really low GPA :2.3 I had a lot of personal stuff going on and I wasnt as focused as I should have been.

However, recently I have been pulling all A's

I found that if I add Biology as a double major and I manage to get decent grades with all my remaining neuro classes and the extra biology classes I can bring my GPA up to 3.09

is it a good idea to add a double major and try to bring up my GPA?

In your situation, I would say “Yes”, it is probably a good idea to do the double major.

1,) The 2nd major can help justify the additional time as an undergrad.
2.) It gives you a chance to raise your GPA.
3.) It gives you the chance to demonstrate good academic performance across more classes… You can use this to demonstrate that your period of low grades was a fluke, rather than having your period of good grades being the fluke.

I agree - you need to raise that GPA and show sustained good performance, and if a double major is how you do it then that is fine.

Make sure you also use that time to get in some research experience - that is a very important part of grad admissions that you cannot afford to neglect.
