Will adding this EC increase my CHANCES?

<p>Hello everyone, I'm considering adding an EC to my list in hopes of better my chances at college while also doing something I like. I'm considering learning how to play piano, and even though it's my senior year, I think it might be worth it to start. </p>

<p>Here's what it is now:</p>

<p>White Female
Born in Lithuania; family and I are immigrants
Speak fluent Russian</p>

<p>3.8 or 3.9 GPA
SAT: I think this will be atleast a 2100
ACT: 32 or 33 </p>

<p>Courseload: IB Diploma Candidate - IB Bio HL, IB Chem SL, IB Math HL, IB History HL, IB Spanish SL, IB English HL
I will also be graduating with about 28-30 credits, instead of the required 24</p>

<p>ECs:
Volunteered at hospital for all four years of HS (sort of weak, but shows commitment right?)
Secretary of Amnesty Int.
VP of Animal Rights Club
VP of Environmental Club
National Honor Society member
Volunteer at a horse rescue facility
I have had steady PT jobs in retail since the end of sophomore year, with raises/promotions
I'm planning a large fundraiser/guild for the city's children's hospital that will happen my senior year</p>

<p>Recs & Essays: Im really banking on a great essay, and I think I can do it. My recs will most likely be my english teacher (graduated from Columbia & thinks I'm a great student) and my biology teacher, who I've known since sophomore year</p>

<p>Some colleges I'm applying to:
Northwestern, Columbia, Brown, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, etc. (I want to major in bio)</p>

<p>So, do you guys think that adding piano would be helpful at all? I want to do it either way, but I'm going to have a pretty busy year as it is, and don't want to get too side tracked with something that will be useless.</p>

<p>Also, are there other colleges you could recommend to me? </p>

<p>it depends. Are you passionate and what significance would it make in your apps?</p>

<p>I think I am passionate, if I do decide to do this, I will devote a lot of time and effort into it; it is something I’ve wanted to learn for a long time. I think it will also give me artistic depth in my app, since I’m greatly lacking in that area.</p>

<p>then go for it, it obviously seems to cant hurt anyways.</p>

<p>Well, on one hand it cant hurt, but on the other, it might take my attention away from academics/my other ECs, and therefore screw me over.</p>
