Affirmative Action will definitely help. Is it good/fair? Not necessarily a 'yes' or 'no.' You have a pretty good record here. What colleges are you looking at?

i am not sure if because i dont volunteer much or dont have enough awards if i should apply to ivies. i mean seriously this website has shown me several applicants to HYPS that are, well, incredible

Definitely don't compare yourself to the people on CC. Posters here are CRAZY with CRAZY applications that are CRAZILY overqualified! Ya...

Having said that, HYPS are reaches for anyone (though I'm sure if you applied to a few you'd get into at least one). Have any projected safeties?

HYPS are a LOT harder to get into than other universities due to name-brand sake. Competition is fierce but you meet a lot of people that can help you later on. The colleges you've listed are also considered high-level so I dunno if they'd be safeties... lol. If you really wanna do BioMed engineering, I'd definitely try for JHU (then tell me about it, okay? ;P).
