I was very recently arrested for possesion of heroin, but i haven't been convicted yet, i'm not even sure what the charges are yet. I'm applying to art schools, most of them are really good schools but they're art schools so i hope that means that they will be slightly more forgiving. Aside from this, i have never gotten into anyother kind of truble, i've never been suspended from school or anything. I get good grades, i've done a lot of community service with girl scouts.
How badly will this hurt my chances of getting in? Do i have to tell them about it since i haven't been convicted yet? Should i just say that it was drug possesion instead of telling them that it was heroin?

And i'm off to rehab soon so i have to fill out applications now, i can't wait and find out what happens when i go to court.

yes i’m dealing with my drug problem, hopefully i will be better by next september and be able to go to college, if i’m not ready to go then i won’t go but i want to apply to colleges now just so that i don’t regret not doing it later

Of all the drugs, I would imagine that pot would make your artwork better. Heroin induced art would be kinda ugly.

Anyway, I would focus, as Iron Maiden said, on fixing your drug problem. I will say, though you don’t have to listen, that you should put off a year before going to college if I were you so that you can get your head together.

Oh, and colleges WILL care. Heroin is nasty dude, as I am sure you know, and colleges don’t want to waste their reasources and money on a student that all-ready looks like a potential drop-out.

Dude heroin… that’s insane. Where do you even find it? Like, isn’t it weird for a 17 year old girl to just walk into whatever projects or ghetto streetcorner where they sell it?

You should have a lawyer. Talk to your lawyer; they’re the best ones to help you out and tell you what your obligations are at this point in your journey through the legal process.

As far as affecting your chances of getting in; I doubt it. Narcotics charges are too common to make a really good “hook”; you’d be better off putting more academic extracurriculars down or trying to bring up your SAT scores. I wouldn’t rely on your experiences as a result of this drug problem to help you get into any college, even a state college.

This would make an awesome essay if you could justify it.

And yes this would probably be a deciding factor…
Also the clause in submitting applications does state “That you have provided information that is true” so lying that you haven’t been in trouble isn’t wise
