Would anybody be open to taking a look at our school profile? we had to make one since we have never had an applicant to US.
Sorry for being Off-topic
It would probably help if you can talk about your experience with Western culture if you have a positive view. As to the significance of your age–no one can know how much, if any, how much that factor will weigh on the admissions decision.
As gibby said, unless you are a bonafide genius (with the press and accolades to support that presumption), every applicant has major hurdles to overcome, young and ‘old’.
I am updating this thread to thank all who helped me, and to offer my own case as evidence that harvard does not care about the applicant’s age. I hope that this provides a glimmer of hope to all 16 year old seniors on this website.
Salam @Soheils
congratulations for getting accepted into Harvard!
Well Im iranian too and im studying in the same school as yours with kinda same grades thus there is plenty of questions I may ask you.
Since there isn’t a private message option in college confidential can i have your email or any other way that I could contact you?
It would mean the world to me .
Best wishes
@sungirl Hello compatriot!
Thank you.
Actually, there is a private message option; I just sent you a message.
I am happy to help.
Hi @Soheils , congrats on your admission to harvard!
I’m Elina, currently a sophomore at a NODET High School in Iran (btw I don’t live in Tehran). I’m planning on taking the ACT and a few SAT II’s so I can apply for US colleges (mostly Ivies).
I think grades are pretty good. My freshman GPA is a 19.88, sophomore midyear GPA is a 19.91 and since the finals are almost over I think my final sophomore GPA will be something around 19.75-19.90. My rank is 2/180.
I tried to check some of your posts and wow! I am truly impressed by your achievements. Taking your age into account, I can tell that you’re definitely a very smart kid (I mean, you’re a Harvard student! ). Anyways, I’m very proud of you.
One question about your stats, what exactly is double majoring? I mean how did you do that? What are theoretical and experimental GPA’s?
By the way, since this is my first post on College Confidential and there’s a limit that only lets members who have more than 5 (not sure, it could be 10) posts send pm’s to others, could you please pm me if you time to spare?! There’re so many questions in my mind that are driving me insane. I’m specially very nervous about the essays, teacher & counselor recs and the ECs. I really need some help and would appreciate it if you were of any!
Thank you very much in advance!
@“Elina M” Hello Elina!
Which city are you from? I am not from Tehran either (Proud Khorasani).
Your grades are wonderful.
I thank you for your kindness.
Ok, as for your answers:
Double Majoring was something that we could do prior to the Reform. basically, you could get two different high school diplomas in two profiles. Theoretical and Experimental were my attempt at creating a coherent translation of “Tajrobi” and “Riazi-physics”. I am not sure if you can still get two diplomas, but it served me well because it allowed me to study math and physics without sacrificing Bio and Chem. I think, and I say this with a lot of doubt, the Supreme Court of Administrative Justice’s ruling on the lack of due process on the usage of diplomas in the Iranian Concour system encouraged the Ministry of Education to ban Double Majoring and Major Change to prevent them from being accused of ignoring due process in the future. ( Take this with half a ton of salt)
I will send you a PM in a few minutes.
Wow that was quick! I can’t explain how happy I am that you responded so quickly. Thank you very much. I’m checking your message asap.
Goddamn, I meant “if you HAVE time to spare***”
Excuse my grammar nazi self. Couldn’t go without correcting it.
This is a non-issue. Colleges can’t legally share this information. Even if they could, it wouldn’t mean anything, because amazing students get rejected by Harvard every day. Other colleges know that, and would happily scoop them up.
