Will an F keep me out of grad school?

Hey, everyone,

So, I’m a freshman in college this year, and I made the mistake of taking an honors chemistry course. I am in the full honors program at my university, and I have A’s in all of my other classes. However, I am quickly finding out that chemistry is my absolute kryptonite. It looks like I may be getting an F this semester, and I don’t have many chances to bring it up. Chemistry is not a required class for my major. So, my question is: will a single F freshman year keep me out of a top grad school program? Do you think it would be better for me to try and get a W in this class instead? Do you have any other suggestions for fixing this, or at least doing some damage control?

No, a single F will not keep you out of a grad program. I had an F in a class in my own field and still got into a top graduate program.

A W would look better, though.

i agree with @juillet. for a class that isn’t required for your major, a W is definitely preferable to an F.
