Will an SAT II in Math I break me?

Hi all,

I've applied SCEA to Harvard for the class of 2017. I'm anxiously awaiting responses. I'm #2 in my class, have leadership in over 3 extracurriculars and international recognition in one (science research), but am worried about one thing in my scores:

33 ACT

35 English
31 Math
31 Writing
34 Science

Here's where I'm really worried though--SAT IIs:

-Math I: 740
-Chemistry: 790

Will having the math I and not Math II break me? I never had a tutor or anything, so I didn't know which test to take...I took the one I always did better on in practice tests.

Thanks

Well, it depends on your major. I think if you chose a STEM major, you don’t stand much of a chance anymore, but if not, you still have a chance, though it may still hurt you a bit. I think what hurts you more (at Harvard) is that it’s a 740.

you think one score holds that much power? I recognize it would hurt my chances, but if I have 98+ in all of my maths (including precalc and AP calc BC), would one lousy score still be a breaking point?

And yes, I’m applying for STEM. I won 2nd place at an international competition for research in engineering. I’d hope that helps.

It’s not going to break you, quit worrying.

You don’t have a 98% in your math classes unless your teachers inflate the hell out of your grades.

Regardless of anything you read on CC…one score can never break you. CC’ers have convinced themselves it is the case, but it’s not and it won’t. Not saying you’re getting in to Harvard…but if you don’t, it won’t be solely because of an SAT2 test score. Good luck!
