At my school, the BC teacher is terrible and the AB teacher is great. That, and I'm not very good at math and thus AB would be the better fit...

But I'm concerned that it may obliterate my chances.

It certainly will not obliterate your chances.
If you’re applying with an intended major like math/physics/engineering, it will make you sliiightly less competitive. If you’re going into something else, either course will be fine.

no its fine… its not a HUGE deal

^^
Dang, you’re one of the most critical people I’ve seen, so that’s a huge comfort coming from you.

What about for Econ/finance?

It’s fine, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Anyway, you’re more likely to do well in math in the long run if you take AB…

Yep, I agree. Take AB. In my opinion, BC moves at a pace that only superhuman math freaks can keep up with.

Thanks, guys. Will my course load still be rigorous even with AB and no AP Physics?

AP Lit
AP World
AP Gov/Honors Econ
Honors Human Anatomy
AP Calc AB

FLVS AP Art History
FLVS Spanish 3 Honors

As someone who just failed a BC test with an excellent teacher, take AB. Your schedule still shows a high level of rigor, and BC at this point would be unnecessary pain.

^
Woah… Why do some people say BC is an easy class?

It sounds excruciating. /:

lol @ saugus i see you did some stalking you’re going to university of south carolina? i dont get it but besides the point. i think BC is actually an easy class… just some minor things to AB. just series, and 2-3 more topics. your courseload is pretty hard and if not taking BC will make you feel a lot better dont take it. its not going to deny you to anywhere

BC isn’t hard because you cover those 3 or 4 extra topics (though the extra topics are a pain). It’s just hard because you’re given problems that are significantly more difficult but based on the same topics AB covers. You realllly have to understand what’s going on to do well (whereas in AB you can succeed by just knowing the basics). And you have to be able to do it all quickly. Just my two cents.

Calculus is important in economics. But AB is fine.

I am pretty good at conceptualizing math (not super good, but above average) and BC is the most difficult class I have ever taken. However, I enjoy it the most of any of my classes because of its complexity. Do I have a C? Sure! But it’s fun! Also, I wouldn’t say you can easily compare BC to any other HS class. Most classes go, “here’s how to solve the problem, use y to find x.” And you can memorize the process. In BC it’s more “Here’s what an integral is. Ok now make it infinitely big. Now use your knowledge of integrals and series to find the error between the two.” So yeah wicked hard, but worth it in my opinion.

I’m in BC and can’t imagine doing differentiation and integration all year. It isn’t that hard at all. I probably learned more math in Physics C than I would in AB altogether.

Why do some people say BC is easy and others say it is insanely hard?..

I’m not saying AB is easy. It’s easier. If you find AB hard already, you’ll find BC even harder. I find BC not too hard and AB easier than that. Neither of them compare to Physics C though, it’s friggin hard.

well our teachers are kickass… tbh. 98 percent of my teacher’s students got 5 in AB thats like ~100 students. a lot of people got 5 in BC also. i got a 5; i’ll admit that the series can get kind of hard, but its do-able. our school won some award from collegeboard for calc. i can get you some of the worksheets to help you if you want… they make it really easy to understand

^
Like, even for someone bad at math? I wasn’t even good at Algebra 2…

It’s no biggie. I got in UChicago Econ and Rice Engineering with only AP Calc AB.

I would say take BC. AB is ridiculously easy, got an A last semester even though i lost about 6% by not doing my homework. The easiest math I’ve taken through all of highschool by far, the pace is so freaking slow and i just play tilt to live every day in that class.

@saugus how bout i email you some of our school’s worksheets. they simplify the archaic language into something really understandable. just take look at the material. and ya a lot of people who have B- in the calc class get like 5s on their ap test at our school…

@geniustai did you join the u of chicago facebook group yet
does rice have one by any chance?

i took calc bc last year btw and i’m taking ib hl math right now… to see where i’m coming from…
