Will applying for a lot of scholarships increase my chances?

I've already written about three or four essays and sent them in to apply myself for scholarships. I really need to obtain some financial help, due to my family's current financial situation, to attend college... and scholarships would help SO much. Should I just keep on submitting? What do you think?

Thanks to all who reply :)

You can't win a scholarship you don't apply for, so sure, keep trying. You do want to be smart about it, of course. If your stats, EC's, community service, and leadership aren't top notch, it probably is a waste of time to apply for those huge national scholarships with just one or two winners. Try to find ones particularly suited to your accomplishments or interests. But yes, if you need the money, keep trying. The very worst that can happen is that you wasted some time, but improved your essay writing skills. Good luck!
