Will applying for FA affect my chances of getting in?

My family has a fairly good income, but my sister goes to JHU with just a little FA, and we were thinking about getting it if I got to boarding school. So the schools I am applying for are: Andover, Exeter, Hotchkiss, Choate, Deerfield, St. Paul's, and Groton. Will applying for FA affect my chances of getting in?

I would ask this question of the admissions people at the schools you are most serious about. I know some schools are more likely to waitlist candidates if they ask for financial aid.

Andover is need blind.

Yes it does affect your chances at one of the schools you listed anyway.
You are put into a different pool of applicants and it is much more selective.

One other point to consider: all of the schools that you are applying to are very selective, and generally admit only about 20% of all applicants. If you are truly set on boarding school, you might want to add one or two schools that are not quite as selective.

Most of the schools you mentioned are need blind in admisions - meaning they do not consider FA when admitting. You can get that info on most of the school's web sites, but certainly Deerfield, Andover, Exeter and St. Paul's are absolutely need blind on admissions. A quick check to the web sites of the other 3 would certainly get you that info.
THat said, you might get in and not get the FA necessary to attend, although those 4 I mentioned have very generous FA policies for middle income families - again, those guidelines are on their web sites.

BrooklynGuy is right however, you should add a school or two on your list that is not as selective.

no. they can refuse to give u fa and still let u in. go ahead and ask- it can't hurt.
