Because I saw many students who had applied during their senior year, received the acceptances, then took the gap year, so I’m a little worried it doesn’t worth applying to new universities after the gap year… or not?
Our son applied to colleges during his gap year, not during his senior year, because he was determined to take a gap year and one of the larger scholarships he was potentially eligible for would not have allowed deferral if he had received it. As it turned out, he had no trouble with this timetable and got into the schools he wanted with the funding he hoped for. So if anything the gap year either worked in his favor or was a neutral factor in his application. I do think, however, that many kids have their college admission settled before they take the gap year because it gives them peace of mind and allows them to focus on whatever experience their gap year is intended for.
