Will applying with a lesser known major help my chances of getting into schools?

I was just wondering that if I were to apply to a UC or Cal State with an obsecure major that no one takes, would it help my chances of being accepted into the school. And if so, would I be able to change my major to psychology if I’m already in the university?

Obscure major doesn’t help admidsion chances, because:

  1. students change majors all the time
  2. AdComms are not stupid

Yes it helps since UC 's admit by major.
Once you’re in though it’s basically impossible to switch (otherwise everyone would do it).

And even if you could switch different make require different GPAs making the switch even more unattainable.
