I’ve recently submitted applications for grad school and I’ve noticed on a few of them, they ask if I have attended any information sessions or other similar sessions about their school. I put down no on the application as I haven’t. But now I have received a invitation to go to a information session at one of the schools. So I was wondering if attending it would help with my application? Most of the schools I’ve applied to are out of state so it would be difficult to attend all of them.
Not seriously. There is always some level of consideration of whether an applicant is actually likely attend the school if offered when assessing their application, so it’s possible it could be factored in there. After all, a student who was interested enough to attend the info session is more likely to enroll.
That said, the effect is likel going to be so small that it really isn’t worth fretting about.
A bunch of the places I applied to had online webinars where an admissions officer talked over a powerpoint presentation of information. They also generally had a chat session as well where you could ask questions. I would absolutely recommend attending these because I got application fee waivers at some schools just for attending.
