Hi all! So I applied to the UC’S to transfer this fall 2020. I am an economics major and I finished all my major prep last semester, This semester I am taking one class and a lab (4 units) to finish my IGETC. I don’t have any more classes that I need to take and I am already over the minimum 60 unit mark. I am wondering, if I were to become a part time student this semester (only take the 4 unit class and lab) and explain in my TAU that I am taking this extra time to work more , would that look bad to the UCS? Especially UCLA and UCB. I am just really nervous that being part time this last semester will reflect badly.
I could also just take a few random classes so I can be a full time student but I am not sure if it is a waste of time and money or not. My counselor at my CC said that it shouldn’t matter either way but he wasn’t completely sure. I am wondering if anyone has any insight?
When I look through the past threads no one really mentions being a part time or full time student so I thought I would make this one in case anyone knew any information! Thank you in advance!
Not sure if this will help since I don’t have a definite answer but I’ll share my experience. I’ve worked full time for about 90% of my CCC journey. Ended up with two AA’s by Spring 2019, Business Administration and Political Science, plus was well over the transfer unit requirement when applications opened for Fall 2020. Completed 12 units in Spring 2019 but only 6 units Fall 2019 for IGETC certification. No courses planned for Spring 2020.
I can’t remember exactly what section it was but I did make it clear that I would not be enrolling for Spring 2020 bc I already completed all prereqs for intended majors, completed IGETC, had two AA degrees and worked full time. Davis TAG for Political Science was accepted with this information.
Like you, I debated on taking a couple random courses but realized it wasn’t worth it. Again, not 100% sure but if your explanations are reasonable I don’t think this will hurt.
My last two terms I only took 6 units each term and got into those UCs. I was also working. If you TAG’d Davis that is also okay if you’re working - just make sure you get sign-off for your own peace of mind. It’s probably too late if you already applied. My sister TAG’d Davis last year and was a part-time student one of those semesters they want full-time and her TAG went through.
