Will being Middle Eastern help me get into college ?

I was born in America however one of my parents is full Middle Eastern from Saudi, Lebanon, and Iran. Does being Middle Eastern count as being white ? I also obtain a semi citizenship (green card) to Saudi.

Thanks

Middle Easterners are classified as caucasian and are not considered an underrepresented minorities.

Many smaller, less well-known, colleges would appreciate that your ethnicity would add to their diversity.

Short answer? No.

Long answer? MidwestMom2Kids is not wrong, but the list of schools where this is going to ‘help’ you in any way is few and far between.

There was someone in my school who was accepted to Princeton (SCEA) and I would be hard pressed not to say his muslim background didn’t play a role in his acceptance. He heavily emphasized it through his essays and a lot of his activities were related to his background. If you can do the same, I would try to as colleges are trying to look for religious diversity.

You’d be amazed how many people from the middle east apply to colleges in the US. So, no, I don’t believe it’s an advantage - especially since you neither live in the ME or were educated there. That said, if you speak Arabic, that might be a nice hook.

Racially, being Middle Eastern does not help. However, as katliamom points out, if you speak Arabic or Farsi fluently, andif you write a nice essay on your cultural diversity, that could make you an appealing candidate.
