Will being out of state increase or decrease my chances?

I applied to Fordham University in NYC, and I am from Chicago and have lived there all my life. My mom told me that they want out of state students becaue it makes them look diverse, is this true? Just wondering. Thanks.

Not from Illinois. If you were from Montana or North Dakota it might help a little.

I think it all depends on how many applications they get from Chicago. It won’t hurt you in any way, but I’m not sure it will help. However, if they get most of their apps from the Northeast then it could be a good thing if everything else is in order.
